I can understand that the health professionals need to closely identify different types of illness in order to better target the appropriate treatment. The problem seems to come as you identify in your post, from ignorance among the wider population. As an example, my son has been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, which is not a medical condition, but rather is a personality type. However I have encountered many people who believe as a result that there is 'something wrong' with him. I even heard on the BBC a reference to someone suffering from 'Asperger's disease'.
